Free Aids testing facilities opened across the city as part of the 15th annual National Latinx Aids Awareness Day.

Gustavo Morales, of the Youth Division of the 'Latino Commission on Aids,' says getting tested is the first step into getting into services, accessing health care, getting Prep and to becoming healthy.

His organization found that although Latinx people made up 17 percent of the U.S population, they accounted for 24 percent of HIV infections in 2014.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the figure represents 250,000 Latinx living with HIV in the country.

The CDC also found in 2015, Latinx people were three times more likely to be diagnosed with HIV than non-Hispanics.

At least 35 free testing sites popped up across the city.

Organizers say they are also sending HIV medication to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico.
