Loitering and no space on the sidewalk - these are some of the concerns from residents after a new migrant shelter opened its doors in Mott Haven.
Community Board 1 Chairperson Clarisa Alayeto says the situation is only getting worse with time. Resources like case management services and legal assistance are available, but Alayeto says more needs to be done.
"The entire sidewalk was obstructed with different activities, right? Whether you had there was a guy cutting hair in one spot, there was another guy selling cigarettes...And then there was someone else selling food all on the same block," Alayeto says.
News 12 is told the shelter is at capacity.
"The question is, what are the services that are being provided to these men who are here? They leave and they're just out all day," said Alayeto.
