With Thanksgiving around the corner, and food prices up, News 12's consumer reporter Janice Lieberman finds out The Real Deal on how we can cut some costs.

The average price a family of 10 will spend on this year's Thanksgiving feast is $61, and a big chunk of that is on the turkey.

"Fuel has been up, supplies have been up, feed costs are up and it all trickles down to the consumer," says Laura Silva, of Hemlock Hill Farm.

And it's not just the bird that will cost you more. Caleb Silver, of Investopedia, says it's truly across the board.

"Given avian flu and given inflation. Just looking across the categories of the food we may be buying for the Thanksgiving meal, potatoes are up 17.5% year over year. Turkey prices up 17%. Sweet corn up 11%. And ham up 8.1%," says Silver.

We found some ways to help ease the pain. If you have unused credit card points, cash them in for a gift card to your supermarket or Amazon Fresh.

Wine has only risen less than 3%, and beer less than 5% - so instead of asking your guests to bring the brew, request dessert which has jumped 20% this year.
