On Saturday night, 55 dancers from the State Ballet of Ukraine will take the stage inside the Claire Tow Theatre at Brooklyn College this weekend for a special holiday performance of "The Nutcracker."
"The state ballet of Ukraine is specifically technically extremely gifted in the style of Eastern European ballet companies, and so it's an extraordinary opportunity to see it in its native form," said Dena Beard, the director of the Leonard & Claire Tow Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College.
The dance company has been touring the U.S since Russia invaded their homeland almost two years ago.
For some fine arts students at Brooklyn College, performances like this one have a profound impact on their community and school.
"For them to share their artistry with this community here in East Flatbush, which I would say doesn't get to see artistry of that form very often, it's really a privilege and a blessing," said Tasiya Roseborough, a master's student in Fine Arts at Brooklyn College.
The performance starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 16.  Tickets range from $55 to $85.
