The mother of a Bronx high school basketball star who was killed by a stray bullet in 2020 called for justice to be served as her son's accused killer appeared in court Friday.

Brandon Hendricks was killed just days after graduating high school and one week shy of his 18th birthday.

Police charged Nahjim Luke with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. The Hendricks family says Luke was offered a plea deal Friday of 22 years, with 19 of them to be served. He also would have five years of supervision.

"What I saw today, what I heard today, you know it's basically...there's no proper justice," says Eve Hendricks, Brandon's mother.

She says more needs to be done to stop gun violence in the city.

"We just have to keep pushing and trying and praying and hoping you know that these kids gather their senses, and you know, stop killing," says Hendricks.
