The Bronx Borough President announced on Wednesday that "Bronx Week" will be cancelled for May 2026.

"Bronx Week" has been running for nearly 55 years. This is the first time the event has been canceled, with the exception of the pandemic in 2020.

"It's time for new ideas! It's time for creativity... it's time for innovative ways to celebrate the Bronx," said Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson.

Gibson said this is not a long-term cancellation, but a "pause."

She cited economic hardship across the borough as a reason to reprioritize the event to what the borough needs.

"We're also living in a moment of a serious economic crisis in the country, the state and the city, and we all have to do a little bit more. And we have to really ensure that the dollars we're spending are really meaningful," she said. "We all have to make tough decisions. This is not easy, but again, the time of the pause allows us a chance to refocus and to really restructure."

The borough president said her team is aiming to shift programming to be more inclusive and impactful to the communities they serve.

"We just need a little bit of time and a little bit of patience and opportunities to really expand our growth, our reach, our impact, our partnerships, initiatives, so that we can really make sure that Bronx Week is exactly what residents should expect."

There will be an opportunity for the community to make their voice heard and submit ideas for the next "Bronx Week."

The Borough President's Office says some programming for this year, such as "The BX Factor," "Bronx Bankers Breakfast," "Salute to America Firework Show," "Bronx Night Market" and more will still be happening.
