5h agoThousands of New Jersey residents hit the state’s highways Friday to get away for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Heavy traffic was forming on the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike by Friday afternoon.
AAA predicts that 1.3 million New Jersey residents will travel 50 miles or more from their homes during the holiday.
The agency says that car travel around the country is expected to set a new record, despite historically high gas prices.
The average price for a gallon of gasoline in New Jersey on Friday was at $4.85, down 2 cents since Thursday and down 9 cents since last week. That is just 1 cent more expensive than the national gas price average of $4.84 per gallon.
