During his campaign, Trump vowed to enact “mass deportation on day one” in an effort to address the migrant crisis in the country.
With many unanswered questions, News 12 spoke with Representative Nicole Malliotakis for some insight.
“The deportation of criminals is going to begin tomorrow. I believe it's going to begin in Chicago followed by New York,” said Malliotakis.
Make The Road New York is a community advocacy organization geared toward providing immigrants with support and resources.
Luna Cortes, lead immigration organizer for Make The Road NY, said her office is working tirelessly to assist worried undocumented New Yorkers.
“it’s really crucial that people know their right to remain silent, and their right to protect themselves against unreasonable searches and seizures,” said Cortes.
She said believes the deportation will be in the form of raids by ICE, both door-to-door and at the workplace.
Cortes encouraged any and all undocumented immigrants to reach out to their organization for assistance and guidance.
