Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi spotlighted that Ukraine is still in need of help as she visited the College of Mount St. Vincent on Monday.
Pelosi was joined by Rep. Jamaal Bowman to look back on the year since the American Rescue Plan was signed. The plan aimed to provide relief and aid to people and businesses as a result of the pandemic.
However, the focus shifted to providing relief to Ukraine and the speaker touted the $1.5 trillion funding, which includes $13.6 billion in aid to Ukraine, that she says President Joe Biden is set to sign tomorrow. She also mentioned that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy requested to have a meeting with Congress soon.
One of his requests, Pelosi says, is open skies. This move would risk Russian planes being shot down and what she says would start World War III.
"Of course, Putin would like to taunt with that. He's hinted about chemical, hinted about biological, and nuclear. This is a very, dangerous, irresponsible person who's doing very evil things, as I've said, outside the circle of civilized human behavior,” said Pelosi.
Pelosi didn’t mention a plan or how they would help refugees, but she says it’s the nation’s responsibility to let them in “whatever numbers they want to come.”
