Toucans rescued from wildlife traffickers now thriving at the Bronx Zoo

More than a dozen toucans rescued from wildlife traffickers are now thriving after getting a second chance at life.
Visitors at the Bronx Zoo can now see two of these colorful birds. They're among 14 trafficked toucans that were rescued after being confiscated at the U.S.-Mexico border last summer. After months of intense rehab, staff members were able to nurse all 14 birds back to health.
"These birds are a testament to the animal care staff and the care that we provide and the obligation that we have to all of these animals," said Chuck Cerbini, the Bronx Zoo's curator of ornithology.
The Bronx Zoo also hopes this brings more awareness to the problem of wildlife trafficking and the need for continued policies to keep animals safe.
