Transit activists call for more pedestrian safety
Transit activists are calling for more pedestrian safety along a busy road in the Bronx.
The group, Transportation Alternative says Broadway, the road that runs along Van Cortlandt Park, is downright dangerous.
The group says  41 pedestrians and cyclists have been struck on Broadway between 2012 and 2016, including three who died.
They say motorists speed along the road from Yonkers to Manhattan while pedestrians and cyclists are crossing the street.
Activists want the city to do more to protect people by adding protected bike lanes, pedestrian islands and sidewalk extensions leading to Van Cortlandt Park.
Organizers say they have created an online petition and will send the list over to Councilman Andrew Cohen.
