A person hurled a concrete slab at bus in Canarsie early Saturday morning, shattering the windshield and causing injuries to the driver, according to Transport Workers Union Local 100.
The union says Lapreecia Oquendo, a bus operator for 19 years, “was showered with tiny glass particles, creating a lingering burning sensation on her legs, arms and hands.
They say the attack occurred at 1:33 a.m. on the b42 while she was driving northbound on Rockaway Parkway.
“This is a despicable act of violence,” said Local 100 President Tony Utano, in prepared remarks. “This individual needs to be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The union says it will distribute video from the bus incident to police to help them make an arrest.
“This is what happens when the MTA screws up,” according to Utano. “Irate riders target transit workers…The bus schedules during the subway shutdown are inadequate and need to be revisited.”
Police have not revealed any details surrounding the incident yet.
