Two people went to the hospital Thursday morning after a large tree fell on two vehicles in Kingsbridge Heights.
The tree uprooted along West Kingsbridge Road, crushing a parked car before falling onto another vehicle that was traveling up the street.
Junior Talvaraz said his brother and his 80-year-old father were inside the moving vehicle when the tree came down.
“It fell with incredible force,” Talvaraz said. “I don’t know how they’re still alive.”
Both men suffered non-life-threatening injuries and went to the hospital, according to Talvaraz.
FDNY crews were seen cutting the tree into pieces and removing the trunk from the damaged vehicles as cleanup continued.
“I heard the boom and saw the tree falling down,” one witness said.
Neighbors said they are now concerned about the large, mature trees that line the street. Some believe recent rainfall may have softened the ground around the tree’s roots, but the cause of the collapse has not been confirmed.
“It’s dangerous. It’s scary,” one neighbor said.
Another worker in the area said he had never seen anything like it.
“It’s crazy. I’ve never seen this in my 30 years working up and down this block,” he said.
Cleanup remained underway Thursday afternoon. It was not immediately known what caused the tree to fall.
