9h agoThe holiday spirit arrived in Mott Haven Saturday as the community gathered for a tree lighting ceremomy.
Friends and loved ones gathered at the Padre Plaza Success Community Garden to witness the holiday tradition followed by hugs, cheers and pictures.
The rest of the garden was also transformed into a winter wonderland with a candy cane pathway that leads to Santa's workshop, where organizers will be hosting a toy giveaway next week.
The giveaway was made possible from hundreds of toys that different organizations donated.
The garden director said it's all about bringing people together during the holidays and spreading cheer to those who may be having a hard time.
The toy drive will take place next Saturday at 1 p.m. It's on a first-come, first-serve basis and organizers are expecting more than 300 kids.
