Over a dozen saplings dedicated to Throgs Neck victims of 9/11 were stolen from Ferry Point Park Thursday. The head of The Friends of Ferry Point Park, Dorothy Poggi, believes that the incident was not a random act. Poggi says that directly behind the area of stolen dedication trees is an untouched group of saplings. ?I don?t think it was kids playing around because the other trees are so close. And I don?t think anybody who wasn?t doing it specifically would see the difference,? says Poggi. The parks department plans to increase security and add more fencing to the area. The stolen trees, as well as almost 3,000 others, were donated to Ferry Point Park by the Prince of Monaco in honor of victims of the September 11th terror attacks. The family of one 9/11 victim says they will be back this spring to replace the 15 stolen saplings. They also plan to add tulips and daffodils to the area.
