A new amputee program is aiming to get Bronx residents back on the move one step at a time.
News 12
first reported in December that Triboro Center at 1160 Teller Ave in Claremont would be offering services to amputee patients for the first time with new equipment meant to support longer and more independent living. The center demoed its NuStep Cross Trainers for News 12 crews, showing how the elliptical-like machines build strength, endurance, and stability. The technology can cost nearly $7,000 and is hard to come by elsewhere in The Bronx.
Many of the employees at Triboro are also from The Bronx, which patients say creates a connection and relatability during what can otherwise be a scary time. Triboro offers daily one-on-one rehab with customizable plans and same-day admission. Interested patients can book a tour
here.
Health People Community Preventative Health Report
found that in the previous decade foot amputations increased in The Bronx and across New York City.
