How many times has this happened to you? You search for something online, and the next thing you know - your social media pages are bombarded with ads for the exact same product?
These days more people are using fake usernames or emails to safeguard their privacy - there's just one catch. Fraud investigator, and former Yonkers inspector general, Dan Schorr tells News 12's Tara Rosenblum that it doesn't do all that much to stop companies from tracking you!
But, the news isn't all bad. Turns out that there are new services that will help you secure your privacy when shopping or signing up for online discounts!
Disposable email is a service that allows you to receive email at a temporary address that self-destructed after a certain time elapses. It's also usually anonymous and not tied to your identity.
Below are some of the services that Schorr recommends:
FIREFOX
RELAY
Firefox
Relay email aliases protect your real email address from public view,
automatically forwarding emails to your real inbox.
EMAILONDECK
EmailOnDeck
is simple and free. You can create temporary emails in two easy steps.
TRASHMAIL
All mails
to this address will be forwarded to your real email address for a number of
times you can set up. When the limit is reached, the
trashmail.com email
address will be automatically deleted.
MAILDROP
No signup
required -
Maildrop is free for anyone to use when you need a quick, disposable
email address.
TEMP MAIL
This free
email service allows you to receive email at a temporary address that
self-destructs after a certain time elapses.
10 MINUTE
MAIL
This
service allows you to create an email address that lasts 10 minutes.
Another advantage to using a burner email address, Schorr says you reduce the risk of viruses and malicious emails arriving to your inbox.
