OVERNIGHT: MORE CLOUDS AND SOME FOG

Tuesday was really another incredible, May-like weather day for a second straight day across much of Long Island. Highs hit the 60s and 70s for areas away from the immediate South Shore and East End. As expected, it stayed noticeably cooler along the South Shore and East End, with temperatures in the 40s and 50s.
Through the overnight hours, expect some more clouds at times, with temperatures falling into the upper 30s to mid-40s for lows. Areas of at least patchy fog develop overnight and will linger into Wednesday. The worst of the fog will be along the South Shore and East End, but anywhere in Nassau or Suffolk Counties can get areas of fog overnight.

LOOKING AHEAD: WET AND SOME WINTRY WEATHER RETURNS

Wednesday will have some fog, hints of morning sun and showers developing especially in the afternoon.
Expect on-and-off light rain showers through Wednesday night, but a brief downpour and rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out. Highs will be in the 50s. It will become breezy at night with shower chances continuing.
Some of the steadier showers arrive midday Thursday as colder air moves in. High temperatures on Thursday in the upper 40s to low 50s will be reached in the morning hours.
Temperatures drop in the afternoon. This also means that rain showers can end with some wet snowflakes mixing in. If you see any snowflakes, they will not accumulate on the ground, but travel will remain wet. There can be some slippery spots developing into Friday morning because parts of Long Island can have temperatures dropping to around the freezing mark.
Temperatures will be more seasonable into the weekend with highs in the mid- to upper 40s. While a shower or two cannot be ruled out Friday night into Saturday and again Sunday night, a good portion of the weekend is expected to be dry.
Next week will start wet and mild on Monday with periods of rain. Some of that rain may be heavy at times. This front will usher in a much colder feel for St. Patrick's Day on Tuesday and next Wednesday with highs only in the 30s!
It does look like temperatures return to the 40s by the end of next week.

ALLERGY SEASON UNDERWAY

If you have been noticing your seasonal allergies acting up, you are not alone. Tree pollen is now active and at moderate levels.
