STORM SNOW TOTALS
More than 2 feet of snow fell in much of Suffolk County. Islip MacArthur Airport's reported 29.1" of snow could officially become the biggest snowstorm at the airport since record-keeping began in 1963. The previous record was 27.8". This surpasses the blizzard of 1978 and Blizzard of 2013. The National Weather Service will review this in the coming days and make an official announcement.
Some good news sunshine around today will help with melting snow. Highs will be near 30. Cold weather tonight with lows in in the teens to near 20. Light snow developing after 4am.
More snow this week?!
Believe it or not, we are watching two other weather systems before the weekend. The first arrives for the morning rush hour on Wednesday. The second system impacts Long Island Thursday evening into Friday morning. Here is the latest:
WEDNESDAY MORNING:
A quick round of snow or mixed rain and snow showers starts after 5am. Period of snow before a change to some rain. A coating to 1 inch of snow will lead to slick and icy roads along with poor visibility. Any snow and mix will end around noon and skies will clear by late in the day with highs near 41.
THURSDAY P.M.
The second system on Thursday afternoon and evening could be more impactful with a couple of inches of new snow or even some ice or freezing rain. We are watching this closely for further Long Island weather impacts.
Thursday: Mostly cloudy with snow or wintry mix possible in the afternoon and evening. A coating to a couple of inches of snow cannot be ruled out. Highs around 38 degrees. Lows near 30 degrees.
Friday: Any wintry mix or snow ends early. Sun and Clouds in the afternoon. Highs around 42 degrees. Lows near 28 degrees.
WEEKEND: As of now the weekend looks good with highs in the 40s and a mix of sun and clouds.
