HEADLINES:
Accumulating snow is likely for Sunday followed by a frigid blast of cold.
The weekend starts with warmer temperatures and rain showers during the afternoon. Highs will be near 47 degrees. Skies clear, with colder weather overnight.
Expect some sunshine for Sunday morning, with snow arriving around lunch time. Snow showers will pick up in intensity and become steady during the afternoon. Some mixing is possible along the South Shore and East End during the day.
By the evening, snow could become heavier as it gets colder. The worst of the storm will be between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. with slippery travel around Long Island. Snow will taper off by midnight, with clearing skies by Monday morning.
Expect an average of 4 inches, with slightly lower amounts on the South Shore beaches and East End. The North Shore of Nassau County into Suffolk County could see the highest amounts, in upwards of 8 inches.
Once the snow clears, get ready for much colder weather. By Tuesday and Wednesday temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees below normal with wind chills below zero in the morning. Daytime highs will be in the teens to near 20 degrees with lows in the single digits.
The frigid blast will last through Thursday morning before temperatures rebound into the weekend.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy, with the chance for rain showers in the afternoon, ending in the evening. Highs near 47 degrees. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Partly cloudy at night with lows near 32 degrees. Southwest to northwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Sunset: 4:53 p.m.
SUNDAY: Partly sunny in the morning, with increasing clouds and the chance for snow showers starting around noon. Some rain or sleet could briefly mix in before the changeover to all snow. Expect steady snow through the afternoon into the evening. Highs near 38 degrees. Snow at night, tapering off after midnight. Lows near 19 degrees degrees.
MONDAY: Partly sunny and colder, with highs near 26 degrees. Lows near 9 degrees.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny, breezy and very cold. Highs near 19 degrees. Lows near 8 degrees.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny and very cold, with highs near 20 degrees. Lows near 11 degrees.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Not as cold, with highs near 30 degrees. Lows near 20 degrees.
