A BREAK FROM EXTREME COLD
We sure could use a break from all of the dangerous cold Long Island has experienced off and on this winter. Thankfully, forecast high temperatures over the next 10 days are finally expected to stay above-freezing with some 40s in sight, too!
COLD WEATHER IMPACTS WILL LINGER
Cold weather-related impacts such as problems with pipes freezing in homes and water main break concerns with daily warming and overnight freezing can linger for awhile, even though the worst of the deep freeze is ending. Please be mindful of this and also use caution traveling at night when black ice can form.
TUESDAY LATE-DAY SHOWERS
Tuesday afternoon and evening, there can be a few mixed snow and rain showers with temperatures rising above freezing, but most of the daylight hours are likely to end up dry under a mostly cloudy sky. The best chance for showers will be after 8 p.m. Tuesday and through just after 1 a.m. Wednesday. That will mostly be in the form of rain with temperatures in the middle to upper 30s. A touch of freezing rain initially cannot be ruled out. Some icy spots can also develop as temperatures gradually drop to around or slightly below 32 degrees again into Wednesday morning.
REST OF THE WEEK
Dry weather returns Wednesday through Valentine's Day Saturday with daytime high temperatures in the mid-30s and overnight lows in the 20s. Watch for areas of black ice each night and morning.
SUNDAY STORM?
It is too early for any details, but a wintry mix or rain is possible for Long Island Sunday into early Presidents Day Monday. There is also a chance that time period could be mostly dry. We will have important updates for you on that through the rest of this week.
Have a great night!
