Two hurt in Melrose possible lithium-ion battery fire, dumpster catches fire in Mott Haven

A fire possibly caused by a lithium-ion battery injured two people in a fifth-floor apartment on East 160th Street last night, according to FDNY officials.

The blaze broke out shortly after 6 p.m., prompting a response from FDNY hazmat crews, officials said.

Both victims refused medical attention.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

And in a dumpster fire on Alexander Avenue prompted a response from FDNY crews Sunday night, according to fire officials. The blaze was reported shortly before 8 p.m., officials said.
