The strike is over, but the feud between the Transport Workers Union (TWU) and MTA is still brewing.

TWU Local 100 President Roger Toussaint and Bronx union workers gathered at City Hall Sunday to call for a contract revote. Toussaint says Governor George Pataki (R-NY), the MTA, media and his union confused workers and ultimately led to members rejecting the contract by just seven votes. Many workers say they fully understand the contract now and believe it would pass. However, the MTA continues to seek binding arbitration, saying the union had its chance to accept the deal. Many labor officials say the MTA does not legally have the right to pull the contract off the table, and that the union could challenge the issue.

TWU members went on strike around Christmas, halting bus and train service. They came back to work after a state mediator stepped in. Workers and the union still face fines from going on strike, which is illegal under New York?s Taylor Law.
