TWU pushing for transit worker recognition in 9/11 recovery
As our nation just marked the 21st anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, the local Transit Workers Union is pushing for the 9/11 Museum and Memorial to recognize the role transit workers had on that day.

407ds agoAs our nation just marked the 21st anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, the local Transit Workers Union is pushing for the 9/11 Museum and Memorial to recognize the role transit workers had on that day.
The union started a petition, which has gained more than 21,000 signatures. The union says the museum currently does not have displays or any form of recognition of what transit workers did that day.
News 12 spoke to the TWU president, Tony Utano, who says they took on roles such as cutting steel, running generators to light the scene and searching for victims.
He adds transit workers have also gotten sick over time because of the toxic exposure and not having recognition from the museum is heartbreaking.
News 12 reached out to the museum for comment and is waiting to hear back.
