Workers locked out of the Phillips 66 refinery in Linden have reached a tentative seven-year contract agreement with management, but a new dispute has emerged over when they can return to work.

Teamsters Local 877 President Jeff Sanford told News 12 the two sides met Tuesday morning and agreed on the contract. Union members have been locked out since Oct. 19.

Sanford said union leaders want members back at work immediately, while management is considering a return between Nov. 16 and Nov. 18 for logistical reasons.

He also said management discussed the possibility of keeping union members locked out through the end of the year and eliminating their already approved 2026 vacation time.

The refinery produces gasoline, heating oil, plastics, propane and butane.

News 12 reached out to Phillips 66 management for comment and a response to Sanford’s claims.
