There are big changes for United Airlines today as the company cuts back its domestic flight schedule as Fourth of July travel gets underway.
Starting today, United will cut 12% of its domestic daily flights at Newark Liberty Airport.
AAA says only 7% of flyers make up the number of holiday travelers this weekend.
A few weeks ago in an interview, the United Airlines president and CEO said he felt a lot of the problems with delays and cancellations were because Newark was overbooking flights as an airport but was also short of air traffic controllers.
In turn, United has decided to remove about 50 daily departures which the company says should minimize excessive delays and improve on-time performance not only for its customers but for everyone flying through Newark.
As far as air traffic controllers, the application window to apply for the position is currently open and extended to all United States citizens.
