Fernando Mateo, co-founder of United Bodegas of America (UBA), is resigning following the endorsement of Zohran Mamdani for New York City mayor by the group's president, Radhames Rodriguez.
Mateo will be formally announcing his resignation on Thursday morning at a press conference, though the location has not been provided at this time.
He told News 12 that he plans to form a new group to support bodegas throughout the five boroughs called the "Bodega Alliance."
The UBA publicly disagreed with Mamdani's plan to launch city-owned grocery stores over the summer.
