Construction is underway on a Mott Haven museum that celebrates hip-hop, and its chief curator says it will include contributions by the late rapper DMX when it opens.
Following a heart attack last Friday, DMX spent a week in White Plains Hospital. His family announced his death earlier today.
The Universal Hip Hop Museum will create a collection and archive that DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, will be included in.
Chief Curator Paradise Gray with the Universal Hip Hop Museum says he was not only a musician but a talented poet and actor.
"If Tupac was the heart of hip-hop, DMX was the soul. DMX was that realness, that grittiness, he didn't create the grittiness of DMX to rap -- that's who he was,” said Gray.
The Universal Hip Hop Museum is expected to open in 2023 and many say they are looking forward to seeing DMX’s contributions.
