A school in University Heights is set to move to a new location, a plan that is being met with some opposition.
P.S. 315 is moving to the site that once housed Our Lady of Angels Catholic School in Kingsbridge. Construction on the new building has already started.
Parent Brittany O'Neal thinks the move is a good thing even though she is surprised the old school is not being used to alleviate crowding. O'Neal, a former student of Our Lady of Angels, says she thinks the new location will be convenient for many parents.
However, Elizabeth Thompson, vice president of the Kingsbridge Heights Neighborhood Improvement, finds fault with the move. She says there are so many schools that are overcrowded and could have used the space.
Thompson says the community should have had more input into how the Our Lady of Angels land would be used. She says she will not stop until her voice is heard.
The Department of Education could not be reached for comment.
P.S. 315 is set to open next year.
