Members of the U.S. Army and their families gathered for a special change of commander ceremony Tuesday at the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton. 

Col. Craig Martin and Col. Brian Jacobs passed the Garrison colors to symbolize the transfer of authority between commanders. 

The United States military has hosted change of command ceremonies for more than 240 years. Jacobs called it a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of.  

"I look forward to learning as much as I can and providing excellent services based on the great things, they're going to help me do," said Colonel Jacobs in reference to working with his team.  

Col. Craig Martin took command of Fort Hamilton in 2020 during the pandemic, a job he says no one could possibly prepare for.  

“To command an organization in the U.S. at this level, at the brigade level, is one of the largest and best honors an officer can have bestowed upon him," said Col. Martin. 

Col. Jacobs wants the men and woman that he will now lead to know that his main goal is to add value to the Garrison Fort Hamilton community. He wants them to know that they can trust him, and he is there to make their lives easier and safer.
