A new vaccination site is opening at the Bay Eden Senior
Center in the Baychester section of the Bronx today.
The center is a staple in the area for providing service to support seniors,
and now it will be vaccinating the most vulnerable population in the city.
The Bronx has been one of the hardest hit places during the pandemic, which is
why there has been an effort to get many vaccine sites throughout the borough.
Assembly
Speaker Carl Heastie, state Sen. Jamaal Bailey, Rep. Jamaal Bowman and City Councilman Kevin
Riley were all part of the effort to get the site up and running in the area.
The
site will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
Officials say there is enough space and staff to vaccinate more than 1,000
people a day depending on the federal supply.
The site in Baychester is just one of several vaccine sites
opening today. Each one is focused on serving underserved communities.
