A company in Brooklyn is hiring employees from a segment of the population that is sometimes ignored.
VICE Media, located in Williamsburg, says it hires people who were formerly incarcerated. The initiative is a six-month paid apprenticeship program within the company.
The company says it took the Work For Success Pledge, and businesses in the Bronx are also encouraged to take part.
The pledge is an online state program launched by Gov. Andrew Cuomo that encourages companies to consider hiring qualified candidates with criminal convictions.
Those candidates get hired at VICE for production, editorial and creative jobs.
