Halloween spirit was in full swing in the village of Irvington, from candy to costumes to plenty of good music.

“Every year, I can’t believe it. I take pictures and send them to all my friends and family. It’s amazing,” said Caren Donahue, of Irvington.

Hundreds descended on Main Street on Halloween night for trick-or-treating and a Halloween band crawl featuring various stages throughout the neighborhood.

Residents say they were ready for all the trick-or-treaters.

“I think we purchased 800 pieces of candy and I am afraid we will run out,” said Donahue.

“Minimum 1,200 [pieces of candy] and I’ve given out 1,500 some years,” added Kent Kleiman, of Irvington.

“We purchased 1,000,” echoed Alan Richardson, also of Irvington.

Neighbors even have a little informal competition going when it comes to decorating. Some of the decor was DIY, like Alan Richardson, who created a giant snake from leftover items in his basement.

Decor wasn’t the only Halloween DIY on display. Some residents showed off homemade costumes.

“I got a video online and followed the directions. It was pretty easy,” said Greg Genser, of Irvington. He created an Aaron Judge costume for his 6-year-old son.

“This is 100% homemade out of Amazon boxes, painted,” added Erin Reddy of Irvington, who was dressed as a wedding cake.

Others opted to buy theirs.

“We bought them and we spent far too much money, so we will be Ghostbusters for the next 15 years,” joked Sara Parganos.

There was also music throughout the streets, with several bands performing on and just off Main Street.
