309ds agoBlind and visually impaired students at the New York Institute for Special Education gathered to break barriers and march the streets in honor of White Cane Day.
White Cane Day is dedicated to celebrating the achievements of the blind community and has been nationally recognized since 1964.
Students ages 5-21 took part in a scavenger hunt using audio queues triggered by a QR they scan with their phones.
Program organizers say that this day symbolizes how these kids can pave their way for opportunities for the blind community. They say one of the biggest priorities for the Institute for Special Education is funding, and they’re in Albany demanding the same resources as public schools.
