A Brooklyn grassroots organization is helping those who are struggling with substance abuse and homelessness stay safe during the coronavirus pandemic.
Jeffery Foster, 56, became an outreach worker at Vocal NY after, he says, the organization changed his life.
He goes from neighborhood to neighborhood five days a week to deliver resources to those dealing with substance abuse and homelessness.
The organization is now using Zipcars instead of public transportation to ensure the safety of its employees.
They deliver things like clean syringes, Narcan and safe smoke and hygiene kits, gloves, masks and hand sanitizer.
The office is also open all week. Although employees are not currently allowing people inside except to use the restroom, they're enrolling people in their program and providing any supplies or care coordination services they might need.
