Volunteers cleaned graffiti from East Tremont businesses Friday.
The effort was organized by Bronx Community Board 6 and Bronx Community Solutions.
Volunteers gathered on East Tremont Avenue to clean up graffiti on gates, walls and doors at over 28 business fronts that have been vandalized.
Organizers say the effort is to bring beauty back to the business district.
"The South Bronx is the last place that anyone wants to fix up," said Tiffany Barksdale of Bronx Community Solutions. "This is the place where people need the most help."
Some of the painters were completing court-ordered community service, but still said the experience was rewarding.
Organizers also tell News 12 that they plan on having more graffiti clean-up days. They say they are also trying to get funding so they can have local artists come in and paint murals.
