Volunteers from more than 30 temples in Westchester packed up hundreds of donations for Afghan refugees living on U.S. Army bases.

The Westchester Jewish Coalition for Immigration teamed up with UJA, Upwardly Global, Shames JCC on the Hudson and JCC Mid-Westchester to collect the items over a two-week period.

The items include coats, shoes, backpacks, strollers, shampoo and razors.

More than 50,000 Afghan refugees are living on U.S. Army bases across the country following the country's withdrawal from Afghanistan last month.

For many of the volunteers, this charitable work is personal.

"It's understanding the threat and the violence that they're coming from. It's a desire to make them more comfortable. It's also looking back at my history as a Jew and relating to WWII," says Holly Rosen Fink, president of the Westchester Jewish Coalition for Immigration.

Volunteers are delivering the donations to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Trenton, New Jersey on Wednesday.
