Wappingers SD parents rally for in-person learning soon

Parents in the Wappingers Central School District gathered Monday to voice their frustrations in the hope of getting in-person learning for their children soon.
They created Wappingers Parents United because they say the district has left them out of the conversation on how things are faring for them during an unprecedented school year.
The school district made a last-minute announcement last week that hybrid learning would be delayed for middle and high school students, for what the district tells News 12 were for transportation and other staffing issues.
Parents and children rallied outside of the district's office Monday to voice those concerns and more.
Deputy Superintendent Dwight Bonk addressed them explaining middle schoolers will be back in school in some form on Nov. 2 and high schoolers on Nov. 9.
He encouraged parents to speak with them as they move forward to achieve the goal of providing as much in-person instruction as possible to all students in a safe manner.
The lack of communication for parents has gained the attention of Town of East Fishkill Councilman Anil Beephan, who is creating the Committee for a Responsible Wappingers School District. It's made up of parents, local leaders and students.
