Mayor Eric Adams joined by Attorney General Letitia James and Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell made a public safety announcement Wednesday.

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced a lawsuit against 10 gun distributors for "fueling the gun violence crisis and endangering New Yorkers."

James claims the gun distributors sold tens of thousands of ghost guns. She also says the gun distributors violated several laws by selling weapons to felons and others without a background check.

"While families mourned loved ones lost to senseless gun violence, gun sellers avoided accountability for the illegal and dangerous weapons they sold," said James. "There should be no more immunity for gun distributors bringing harm and havoc to New York.

James is invoking a newly enacted Public Nuisance statute to hold these gun distributors responsible.

"The rise of ghost guns is a disease," said Sewell. "NYPD gun arrests are at a 28 year high."

Sewell said ghost guns make the job of police officers more difficult and dangerous. "We need to protect and prevent additional victims."

This comes after the Supreme Court overturned New York's gun laws recently.
