New York City Mayor Eric Adams was at a Gun Violence Awareness Month rally Thursday to announce a new task force and a new gun violence czar, Andre T. Mitchell of Brooklyn anti-violence group "Man Up!"

The new team is designed to give the community a seat at the table in getting guns off the streets and keeping New Yorkers safe.
Adams called Mitchell a longtime advocate of gun violence prevention.
"This is an all hands on deck moment," Adams said. "We're looking for the right person for the job, and A.T. is the right person for the job," 
Adams will co-chair the task force with Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, and the task force members will include every deputy mayor, the schools chancellor and the police commissioner.
