With so many restaurants shuttering, one Black-owned business in Brooklyn is expanding to a second location in East New York.
Initially, Brooklyn Blend was only located in Bed-Stuy, and since then, in the middle a pandemic, it opened up a second location on Livonia Avenue.
The business offers a healthy juice bar, and the owners say they want customers to consider the space they have a safe haven.
It is a family affair as they share the love with some healthy, homemade soup in a neighborhood that asks for more healthy food options during a time when health is the most important.
The Park Slope salmon sandwich, one of their most popular selections, is smoked for an hour and a half before being seared. Lettuce, tomato, onion and a homemade chipotle sauce are served fresh with it.
Employees say that they still encourage their customers to do curbside pickup because they still want to see their friendly faces, or at least their eyes because of mask coverings.
And while so many are out of work, the business says they were able to hire employees.
For them, surviving the pandemic with loyal customers and a solid team is the perfect blend.
