A family run Caribbean bakery in the Bronx has continued to serve the community during the pandemic and now the owners are expanding.
Lionel Fisher and his four brothers grew up in Jamaica and in 2014 opened their own bakery on East Gun Hill Road, serving up traditional Jamaican recipes like patties, bulla, breads and more.
"You walk in here every morning, you get that scent, a freshness coming out” says Fisher.
Everything is baked fresh daily at the bakery, and they continued to find a way to serve their hot treats to the community during the coronavirus shutdown.
"Right through this pandemic, we have tried our best to make it easy for customers who are stuck at home to get what they want,” says Fisher.
They offered delivery, curbside pick-up and call ahead orders. The bakery, however, was too small, so they expanded their store so that they could have proper space and social distancing for customer safety. They've added plexiglass, distance markers and signs requiring masks.
"We made a decision right away to basically, let's move over to the bigger space,” says Fisher.
