A dance studio in the Bronx finally opened its doors after being closed for nearly five months because of the pandemic.
Now with social distancing guidelines in place, City Stage Dance Academy on Morris Park Avenue is back in business.
"We'll be able to have a lot more fun than being home than just doing Zoom,” says Kayleigh Diaz, a student at City Stage Dance Academy.
City Stage Dance Academy isn't just a place to dance, but students say it is a place to freely express themselves even with social distancing guidelines in place.
"I’d rather wear a mask and be in the class than not wear a mask and be in my house,” says Jordan Kobeck, a student at City Stage Dance Academy.
Temperatures are checked at the door, and students are required to wear masks in the lobby of the building. Once they're in their own socially distanced box, they are free to take them off.
"We made 6x6 boxes in each of our dance rooms so the kids are 6 feet apart at all times while dancing,” says Nicole Fusco, artistic director and owner of City Stage Dance Academy.
Dance instructors wear masks at all times, and a cleaning crew comes in daily to sanitize and clean commonly touched surfaces.
Fusco says she's just happy parents trust her to finally have their kids back doing what they love, after doing Zoom lessons for months.
"As soon as we said that doors were open, they were ecstatic to come back in,” says Fusco.
City Stage Dance Academy tells News 12 that they're hopeful more students will start to enroll in their classes once schools open in September.
