Most travel is still on hold due to the pandemic but that doesn’t mean you can’t take a trip through global cuisines.
Travesias in the Bronx is open and ready to take you on a culinary travel adventure.
Travesias translates to travels in English and that’s exactly what the restaurant aims to take you on.
"It is about travel we try to have like one dish for all the continents and different cities,” said owner Juan Read.
Though under new management, the restaurant was originally named to reflect the many countries the owners had travelled to and its cuisine still reflects that today.
"For a little bit they’re able to experience just being out of you know all of this crisis that we’ve been in for the past few months,” said manager Priscilla Orozco.
The restaurant shut down for a week when the coronavirus pandemic hit but quickly re-opened for take-out and delivery and now for outdoor dining.
"We’re here for our community you know for whatever they need us,” said Orozco.
They said their business declined 70% but since reopening outdoors they’re actually doing better than before thanks to the overwhelming support from the community.
While outdoor dining is open, tables are spaced six-feet apart and sanitized after each guest and hand sanitizer as well as masks are available if needed.
Travesias has also expanded adding lunch for the first time ever -- seven days a week.
