A Westport teen has returned home after representing Team USA at a swimming championship overseas.
Annam Olasewere, 16, took home second place for the USA Swimming's 2023-24 National Junior Team at last week's 2023 World Aquatics Junior Championships in Israel.
"It was my first championship meet internationally," said Olasewere.
She competed against more than 600 other swimmers from more than 100 countries and was the only one from Connecticut.
"I had a bunch of support from my family and friends back home, especially when I placed second," said Olasewere.
Her mother couldn't go to Israel, but she was cheering her daughter from home.
"I was so excited for her, ever since she was a kid this has been her dream, so I was just so excited for her," said Ngassam Olasewere.
Annam Olasewere is back home and back to her regular routine, which includes training year-round at Chelsea Piers in Stamford. She'll be heading to the U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis in June where she'll be swimming to earn her ticket to the Olympics.
