WIC program's virtual assistant now offering help to Spanish-speaking New Yorkers

Only 59% of Latinos and or Hispanics eligible for the Women, Infants and Children program are using it, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The New York state Department of Health launched a new tool to get that number up.
DOH says it expanded its virtual the WIC assistant Wanda to offer real-time help in Spanish.
Through Wanda, a person can learn about the WIC program by answering a series of questions and then can be connected to a local office by putting in their ZIP code. Since the expansion, the department says about a third of its traffic to Wanda has been in the Spanish language.
