STORM WATCH: Scattered showers tonight lead to heavier rain chance Monday morning
Light rain showers will be off and on across Long Island this evening. There will be an increasing chance for a few downpours and a rumble of thunder late tonight and into Monday morning.

THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT
A mostly cloudy sky has developed over Long Island. There are also some spotty areas of light rain and drizzle that will be around this evening, moving in from west to east. Evening outdoor plans will be impacted by wet conditions, but the rain will stay light. Temperatures will be dropping through the 70s this evening, with increasing levels of humidity tonight.
Overnight, expect periods of mostly light to moderate rain, but a rumble of thunder is possible.
WET START MONDAY
It is going to be a wet morning commute Monday, with periods of moderate to heavy rain along with the chance for a couple of thunderstorms. Severe weather is not anticipated, but you may need to budget some extra travel time in the morning. The steadiest rain looks to be from around 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. moving through from west to east. Showers will linger through early afternoon over the East End.
As rain ends during the morning from west to east, breaks of sunshine will develop. Nassau County can start to see these breaks after 8 a.m. and western Suffolk County shortly after that. Clouds, along with some showers, will hang on longer over eastern Suffolk County.
High temperatures will be in the upper 70s to mid-80s and you will feel the much more humid weather, too. There is also another chance for a passing shower or brief downpour in the evening as another cold front moves through, but most of that wet weather is expected to fizzle out before reaching Long Island. Expect for most, if not all, of the second half of the day to be dry.

MONDAY: Wet start. Scattered moderate to heavy rain and a thunderstorm chance in the early to mid-morning hours. Then, breaks of sun other than the East End where clouds and a few showers will linger longer. Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. Humid. UV Index: 8 (very high). Slight chance for a passing shower or downpour in the evening, but most of the rest of the day is dry and good for outdoor plans. Lows around 69.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny, warm to hot and humid. Highs around 86. Lows near 68.
