The USGA
has announced that the 128th U.S. Open Championship will be held at the West
Course at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck in 2028.
It will be
the seventh time the championship has been held at Winged Foot. It will also be
the 14th USGA championship to be hosted by the club. During its 100-year
history, the club has been the site of six U.S. Opens, two U.S. Amateurs, two
U.S. Women's Opens, one U.S. Senior Open, one U.S. Amateur Four-Ball and one
Walker Cup Match. In addition, Winged Foot hosted the 1997 PGA Championship.
The club
last hosted the event in 2020, in which Bryson DeChambeau was the only player
under par as he registered a six-stroke victory. The event was played in
September because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and there were
no spectators allowed on the course.
The 2023
U.S. Open Championship will be held at the Los Angeles Country Club in Los
Angeles, California. The 2026 U.S. Open Championship will be played at
Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton.
