A large house fire in New Brunswick prompted a major firefighting effort Wednesday evening. At least one person was hurt, according to witnesses.

The fire started Wednesday around 8 p.m. on the 100 block of Louis Street.

Videos posted on social media showed flames and smoke pouring out of the upper levels of the home. At one point the upper level of the home can be seen collapsing.

Neighbors filled the sidewalk and watched as firefighters tackled the flames.

"I came outside…flames coming out from right underneath the siding…then I called 911 emergency…and all of a sudden the whole top it just went up in a big flame,” said witness Neil Cohan.

At least one person was injured in the fire.

“We saw a young man on a gurney coming down this way and we just heard that he got burnt on his back. He was lying down on his stomach. We don't know whether or not he was a fireman or lived in the house,” said Maritza Martin-Wildgoose.

It was not clear how badly this person was injured.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
