A woman accused of beating her hospital roommate to death has been arrested.
Police confirm that 44-year-old Raquel Haughton was taken into custody around 2 p.m. Monday and charged with assault and manslaughter in connection to the death of grandmother Cynthia Vann.
The attack happened on Sept. 10 inside Lincoln Hospital, where Vann was being treated for a liver condition.
Investigators say Haughton, who was sharing the same hospital room, punched Vann in the head several times while she was sleeping.
Vann later died from her injuries more than two weeks later.
Advocates say Vann filed a complaint with the hospital after the attack, but no immediate action was taken against Haughton.
Just hours later, Haughton allegedly attacked hospital staff and was arrested and later released from Rikers Island. She had been on the run until her arrest Monday.
