Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson hosted a Women’s History Month celebration at the New York Botanical Garden on Thursday. The event was to recognize notable women in the community.
Over 200 people filled the garden terrace room to celebrate.
Several honorees included former Schools Chancellor Meisha Ross Porter for her recent work spearheading the Bronx Community Foundation.
FDNY Fire Lieutenant Joann Diaz was also honored and even a local high school student who got into 14 colleges.
“I stand on the shoulders of all those who have come before me I am my ancestor's wildest dreams, all of their hopes and aspirations and we are creating footprints for our young people to follow the young ladies who look like us, come from our communities that dare to dream and hope that they too can become successful and they are destined for success,” said Gibson.
