Ischia Bravo is the first woman and Latina to hold the role of Bronx County clerk. She also serves as the clerk of Supreme Court and commissioner of jurors.
The Bronx native has dedicated her whole life to public service.
She’s held roles in government for over 20 years.
“I love this borough. I was born and raised here. I think it's important that Latinos and women of color are included in positions of leadership,” said Bravo.
She say her biggest challenges involve judgement from others.
Bravo says people always scrutinize her background, hair color, age and education, but she doesn’t let that stop her from pursuing her dreams.
Some of the things she’s working on are building trust within the community, increasing civic participation, making the juror experience more accessible and creating transparency and efficiency throughout the courtroom.
Bravo says she’s going to be engaging in community outreach events throughout the borough in the coming months.
