Storm preparations are underway in New York as
remnants of Nicole inch closer to the area.
Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) has directed all state agencies
to get their emergency response assets in place.
MORE:
The state has mobilized a fleet that includes hundreds
of dump trucks, dozens of woodchippers, and 14 vacuum trucks.
The Department of Transportation has more than 3,200 team members ready to respond to
any downed trees and sewer issues. They are checking and clearing drain gates
to prevent clogging and flooding. They are asking homeowners to make sure there
are no piles of leaves blocking drains in your neighborhood.
New York State Police have additional troopers ready
to go to affected areas if, or when, that's needed.
The MTA is closely monitoring weather conditions too
and officials say during periods of peak winds, MTA bridges and tunnels
will likely ban empty tractor-trailers and tandem trucks. Pedestrian walkways
on bridges may also be closed.
The remnants of Nicole will bring heavy rain and
gusty winds to the area beginning later this afternoon into Saturday morning.
